One of the biggest struggles for pregnant women is how to get by while avoiding harmful chemicals. There are so many things we use in our daily lives that are potentially harmful to unborn babies. Many of these were things I didn't even consider until suddenly I couldn't use them anymore in my first pregnancy. And of course, there were other pregnancy side effects that needed to be treated that left me wondering, how?
So here is my list of things that have helped me survive the not so bright spots of pregnancy based on suggestions I received from my midwife or other wise women. It's amazing how the generations past have so many survival secrets that we rarely think to ask about.

When I got pregnant the first time, I immediately watched The Business of Being Born. That was literally a life-changing point for me given my current career path and I feel it should be required viewing for every pregnant woman because the points it makes are incredible. I love the facts it shows on how beneficial having a child as naturally as possible is while acknowledging that some labors do need to be handled by a hospital because of complications. Plus watching it helped reaffirm my decision and prepare me for some of the negativity we faced in that pregnancy.
